Speaking at the Microsoft FAM (Financial Analyst Meeting) on July 27 in Redmond, Wash., Bob Muglia, Microsoft's senior vice president of Server and Tools business, said Microsoft's .Net platform has outpaced Java, particularly the Java Enterprise Edition, over the past five years to become the development platform of choice for enterprise development.
"Five years ago we had problems with J2EE [Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition]," Muglia said. However, "We've grown from having a quarter of the market to, now, 60 percent," he said. Microsoft displayed the FAM presentations via Webcast.
"J2EE has run its course," Muglia said.
So there you go, job done. Next!!

Research released by Nielsen Analytics reported some podcasts are downloaded 2 million times a month. Larry Gerbrandt, vice president and general manager of the unit of VNU that size of an audience means there's money to be made in podcasting, now, and more in the future.

Which sounds good, but (and there’s always a but) Gerhrandt was unable to name any shows with such an audience. So we’ll need to take the numbers with a pinch of salt for the time being I guess.

I checked a project out of our repository and tried to build it. It failed to build, citing the error "unable to find the manifest signing certificate in the certificate store". To fix this error, uncheck the "Sign the ClickOnce manifests" checkbox, on the "Signing" tab, on the project properties page.

A lot of the Carnoustie Golf Links team are down at Hoylake for this year’s Open; bloggers amongst them, so we’re hopping to hear a lot from them over the week. At the moment the hot topic, as far as Carnoustie is concerned, is accommodation.

Yes, normal service has been resumed. I’m back from my holiday (pictures to follow soon) and I’m raring to go. The resort that we were staying at attracts people from all over Europe and the U.S., and so it was a great opportunity to meet people of other nationalities. Below is a list of things I learnt whilst on holiday:
- Italian women are hot
- Germans do have a sense of humour
- French is the sexiest language in the world
- Italian men have larger handbags than Italian women
- Although English is spoken throughout the resort, American is seldom understood (here’s a tip, gimme, kinda and sorta are not real words)
- 35 degrees is waaaaaay to hot for playing football
- Gin and tonic is a great way to keep the mossies at bay
Well that’s it for now, I’ll be back with more techie stuff soon.
